Portland Dance Eclectic Traditional Summer Balls Saturday, July 26, 2025 Saturday, August 23, 2025

For over 15 years, Portland Dance Eclectic has taken advantage of Portland's usually ideal evening weather to host outdoor "Balls." This year, we are excited to continue this tradition with our Black and White Ball on July 26 and the Encore Ball on August 23, both held at the Multnomah Arts Center. Last year's events were well-received, and we are working to make them even better this year. This year we will be co-sponsering with Kevin-Frank Purell, the 17 piece VanPort Big Band to play for us at the Encore Ball. These events offer a fantastic opportunity for our dance community to come together, dress up, enjoy the Portland outdoors, and dance to great music. Tickets go on sale June 8.

We’re excited to bring you an unforgettable night with the VanPort Jazz Band, a 17-piece band and are attempting to expand the dance floor so we can all move freely and welcome more dancers to the floor.
Of course, these additions do come with higher costs. To help cover these and continue offering beautiful dance experiences, we are setting the general ticket price at $50.
At the same time, we deeply value keeping our events accessible to all. If the $50 ticket would be a stretch for you right now, we’re offering a $39 community-supported ticket—please choose whichever option feels comfortable for you. No one should miss out on the joy of the evening!

Information about Multnomah Arts Center

The dance will be held under the roof of the basketball courts. Some positive aspects of this location are:

  • 1. The size of the covered area is twice the size of our floor and is flat with plenty of area for chairs and tables off the dance floor.
  • 2. It will provide protection from rain and provide shade on a sunny hot day, making it unlikely that we will need to worry about cancellation due to weather.
  • 3. There is plenty of safe parking close to the dance site and as long as there is an event happening that evening, we will have access to rest rooms inside the MAC.
  • 4. Multnomah Village has a number of great restaurants and taverns for a pre-dance meal or post-dance drinks and conversations. There are should be enough Sat. Evening activity in Multnomah to attract a small curious audience .
Help is needed for our Summer Dances
Image

Outdoor dances always require more work than our typical dances at Norse Hall. We are creating a new space for each dance. If you can contribute any help this year, it would be greatly appreciated. Some of the areas where we need help are below.

  • This year we will be again hiring help to transport and lay the floor. We will still be needing help laying the floor and loading the floor back into the truck.
  • We are exploring the possibility of hanging some shade cloth to help minimize the glare with the setting setting. Looking for ideas and help putting it up.
  • Help with decorations and set up is again needed. As well as greeters and help with the door. Also organizing tables, water, and possibly potluck items
  • We have a possibility of having more outdoor dances at another location if we can one or two with a truck or SUV who can haul a stack of flooring to and from the dance. Let us know if this is something you might consider helping with.
